A Bright Idea for Natural Mood Enhancement

AUTHOR: Shara Yuni

Aromatherapy Candle
Looking to cheer yourself up or improve your mood? Instead of reaching for your favorite chocolate bar or mixing a martini, try a natural mood enhancer you can indulge in guilt free. Lighten your mood by lighting a candle that will soothe away the blues with a delightful, invigorating scent.

A Therapeutic Candle?

An aromatherapy candle contains the same natural essential oils that have been used for centuries to heal, soothe and relieve a variety of ailments. Essential oils are derived directly from flowers, seeds, bark and other plant matter. They may be blended with other vegetable oils or water for use in baths, massage, or for burning. The properties of the oils have a variety of effects on the mind, body and spirit. Candles made with these same essential oils can improve your mood as they stimulate your olfactory senses.

Natural Mood Enhancement

Unlike alcohol, drugs or other mood altering substances, quality aromatherapy candles contain nothing unnatural or harmful. They can be used whenever you need to unwind as safely as any other type of candle. You can burn an aromatherapy candle while taking a luxurious bath, while reading a good book, or while watching a favorite movie. An aromatherapy candle is a particularly well suited compliment to meditation or relaxation exercise. Lighting a candle is a simple way to relax more deeply and calm your mind as you enjoy your favorite activities.

Types of Aromatherapy Candles

Aromatherapy candles come in a variety of formulations. The best are hand-poured from organic soy wax blended with natural essential oils. Soy wax burns slowly and cleanly, ensuring your aromatherapy candle lasts long and stays full of fragrance for many hours of use.

Commercially available candles may be marketed as aromatherapy products, but most are not. In many cases, the essential oils they contain are not derived from natural sources. Synthetically prepared essential oils may seem to smell the same as natural varieties, but in many cases they do not provide the same benefits. Commercial candles can however introduce you to several essential oil scents, however, and many do create a pleasing environment in which to relax.

Selecting an Aromatherapy Candle

Essential oils vary tremendously in both how they smell and what effects they have on the mind, body, and spirit. Some of the most soothing oils are lavender, rosemary, and chamomile. Invigorating oils are the citrus varieties, including orange and lime. Juniper is another energizing oil.

Choose your aromatherapy candle according to the therapeutic properties of the oils it contains. Have one or more on hand to suit a variety of purposes, and make the most of a wonderful opportunity to compliment and enhance your life naturally.
