Choose a Top Notch Aromatherapy Course for Basic or Expert Training

AUTHOR: Anne Foster

Aromatherapy Course
Whether you simply want to learn the practice or you are seeking certification, a quality aromatherapy course can provide the training you need. There is a tremendous variety of courses available in many different locales. Courses are taught through some specialty shops, at colleges, and online. The price of a course can vary from free to $1,500 or more. Whether or not you get the most for your money is up to you to determine and ensure.

Selecting an Appropriate Course

There are several simple steps you can take to make the most of your aromatherapy instruction. First, decide what it is you are aiming to achieve by taking a class. Some classes are merely educational and provide no certification on completion. Others do provide certificates of completion, but what exactly does that mean? There is no standardized curriculum for certification in the field of aromatherapy. You could well end up becoming certified having gained little practical knowledge.

If you decide you want to be certified upon the completion of your aromatherapy course, it is wise to do some research before you pay a deposit or course fee. Even if you are simply seeking practical knowledge and aren’t interested in certification, it makes sense to check on the instructor and curriculum before you decide on a course.

Turn to the Experts for Guidance

The National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy (NAHA) in the United States is an excellent place to start. This non-profit educational organization works to standardize aromatherapy courses. The NAHA approves certification schools’ curriculums based on standardized criteria. Even if your school has not applied for NAHA certification curriculum approval, it is possible to measure its coursework against clearly detailed NAHA standards.

It is also wise to research the instructor offering the aromatherapy course. Specifically, inquire about training and experience practicing aromatherapy. Did the instructor complete training with an NAHA approved school? Is the instructor even certified? How long has he or she practiced, and where? If possible, check the Better Business Bureau in the locale of their established practice. Don’t be afraid to ask questions regarding qualifications or course curriculum.

A professional aromatherapy course instructor should be able to provide you with the course of study prior to your making a commitment to attend. Check the curriculum against the NAHA standards, and if it varies significantly, ask why. It is also important to note whether or not the course seems too advanced. If you simply want basic knowledge, you may not wish to complete extensive assignments.

Consider Cost and Value of the Course

Be aware of any and all costs involved in the aromatherapy course. If you must purchase your own essential oils or diffuser, consider that when assessing the fee. A more expensive aromatherapy course that includes materials may be a better bargain.

A little bit of research can pay off a lot when you take your course. A knowledgeable, professional instructor teaching truly valuable information is worth the effort. Whether you will be certified or simply ready to practice aromatherapy for personal use at home, top notch training is the key to success.
