Get Started with Aromatherapy with Basic Diffuser Options

Learn the Power of Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy Diffuser
Aromatherapy diffuser options vary, but all serve the same basic function. They scatter or diffuse the scent of essential oils throughout the air for inhalation. As aromatic oils’ scents are diffused, we experience their wonderful fragrances and enjoy the healing properties characteristic of each oil.

Diffusers range in size from pocket size personal inhalers to spa size nebulizers. Diffusers also range in price from just a few dollars to hundreds or even more, depending on make and design. Depending on your needs, more than one diffuser may be the most practical at any given time.

Many individuals new to aromatherapy enjoy having a personal size diffuser on hand for travel or work use. In addition, a candle diffuser is a great option for getting started with aromatherapy in the home.

Pocket Size Aromatherapy

Personal inhalers are perhaps the simplest, most portable aromatherapy diffuser. It is a small devise consisting of a nasal inhaler, base, bottle, and cover. You simply add a few drops of oil to a piece of cotton placed in a small bottle that screws into the base. Once re-assembled, you place the inhaler near your nose and gently inhale.

To change the scent or use a different oil, you simply remove and discard the cotton and clean the inhaler with soap and water. After drying, it is ready for re-use with a new scent.

Inhalers can be used anytime, anyplace, as often as you like. They are very small and fit comfortably in a pocket or purse. Personal inhalers are an excellent choice if you travel frequently, or wish to use aromatherapy oils away from home.

When you tire or wish to change to a different essential oil. Simply disassemble and use a tweezers to remove the old piece of cotton. Clean the bottle with hot soapy water, rinse and let dry. Place a new cotton piece in your bottle. And re-assemble the inhaler.

Candle Aromatherapy Diffusers

A popular first choice for a home aromatherapy diffuser is the candle variety. These diffusers consist of a molded glass or metal bowl. The bowl holds essential oils or blends, generally mixed with distilled water. A tea light or other candle is placed beneath the bowl to gently warm the mixture. Aromatic scents are dispersed throughout the room as the oils are gently heated.

Candle diffusers come in a huge variety of styles and price ranges. Basic, functional diffusers may cost $10 or even less. Elaborately designed or specially crafted pieces can cost ten times that amount.

As with the use of any burning item, care must be taken with candle diffusers. It is important to ensure the candle is only burned under supervision. In addition, the bowl should not be allowed to be warmed free of oils or liquid. On the plus side, no electricity is required, and candlelight can be quite atmospheric.

Scents diffused by candle tend to be light, which may be of benefit in some situations. Particularly if you are new to aromatherapy, they offer a subtle way to experience new aromas and essential oil blends. Some specialists suggest heating oils may eliminate some of their therapeutic properties. However, candle diffusers are an economical, convenient diffuser option enjoyed by millions of individuals worldwide.
